The (I hope) BEGINNINGS of my conversations with A.T. A.T. posted on Facebook his "verse of
the day" Proverbs 19:21 You can make
many plans but the Lord's purpose will prevail.
What follows is my response:
Hi A.T.
Interesting
choice for the verse of the day. Are you
up for a little discussion about that?
If not, here's a spoiler alert!
Ok, then. You're
verse intimates that God has specific plans.
It also intimates that He accomplishes those plan and that there is
little puny man can do to thwart those plans.
Am I right so far?
I Timothy 2:3-4 states that God will have ALL men to be
saved. Let's see. You earlier verse states that God DOES
accomplish His will. THIS verse states
that His will is that ALL men are to be saved.
Isn't that in direct conflict to what the Christian church
teaches today? In fact, doesn't it teach
that God "desires" that all men be saves, but only about 10% of His
creation will actually experience that salvation? Either God's will is
accomplished DESPITE puny man, or God's will is thwarted by man's
"choice." If Christian
tradition is correct, it doesn't sound like God is either capable or willing to
accomplish His will even though your "verse of the day" says
otherwise.
It is also interesting that Timothy also states in chapter 4
that Jesus is the Savior of ALL men, ESPECIALLY those who believe. Now, if I were to ask you to "bring ALL
my books to me, ESPECIALLY those about
God's mercy," would you bring me ONLY the books about mercy? Or, would you bring me ALL my books.
Either we believe
what the Bible truly says, or we continue to follow '...man's traditions,
making null and void the Word of God."
If you would like to continue this discussion, let me
know. I have spent this past year
digging and searching and studying. In
the 40 years of my salvation, nothing has so radically changed my life, my
attitudes, my love and caring and peace, my Love for the Lord, my hope for the
future, our future, and all of mankind.
A.T, I've enjoyed following you on FaceBook and I know how
Sean feels about you and your family.
God Bless and...let me know.
Greg (Sean's
Dad!!)
Unfortunately, A.T. Chose not to respond at all.
